Welcome back to our series that explores the career paths and roles of the dedicated professionals on CarbonCure’s Technical Services & Support (TSS) Team

Following our recent profiles of Collin Bender and Ian M. Bacich, today we are pleased to introduce Jeffrey McDowell, a seasoned Technical Services Specialist whose extensive experience and passion for the field drive our mission forward.

Profile Snapshot

Name: Jeffrey McDowell
Title: Technical Services Specialist
Tenure at CarbonCure: 4 years

Journey to CarbonCure

Jeffrey’s journey in the concrete industry began in his teenage years, when he helped pour driveways and sidewalks with his father's construction company during summer breaks.

This early exposure to concrete work laid the foundation (excuse the pun!) for his deep understanding of the industry and his eventual role at CarbonCure.

A Typical Day on CarbonCure’s TSS Team

Jeffrey works closely with CarbonCure’s Technical Services Director to ensure the success of our customers, from the implementation of our technologies and beyond. His responsibilities are key in maintaining and enhancing client relations and product integration and include:

  • Conducting standardized field testing for various ready mix customers
  • Providing on-site support to Quality Control personnel
  • Advising on product integration into existing operations
  • Troubleshooting technical performance issues
  • Collaborating with the digital team to ensure relevant technical data is collected
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports with customers

“I love traveling and working with new customers and their materials. We get an opportunity to share our industry knowledge as well as learn other industry standards as we travel to different places and experience different concrete environments,” shared Jeffery.

Jeffery’s ACI Grade 1 Concrete Field Testing Technician certification is essential for this field work and is recognized across governmental agencies and private customers alike. It underscores his expertise in conducting the seven standardized tests for freshly mixed concrete, which are crucial for ensuring the quality and reliability of concrete used in various projects.

Career Highlights at CarbonCure

One of Jeffrey’s most significant contributions to date involves his work on the Amazon HQ2 Metropolitan (Met) Park project. This project not only reduced Met Park’s concrete structures' carbon footprint by 20% but also saved over 14,700 metric tons of embodied carbon. This equates to taking 3,200 cars off the road in the U.S. for an entire year.

The project’s commitment to sustainable construction earned it a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification, setting it on track to become the largest LEED v4 Platinum building in the U.S.

Looking Ahead

Jeffrey is currently focused on a production volume push, noting that the production volume reports shared with customers — whether bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually — are proving invaluable. These reports help customers optimize their operations, with the ultimate goal of increasing the volume of sustainable concrete production with CarbonCure.
